The sixth edition of the “Raw Materials Week” is taking place from 15 to 19 November 2021 as hybrid and online events, gathering a wide range of stakeholders discussing policies and initiatives in the field of raw materials.
Monday 15 November, Alberto Bollero from IMDEA Nanociencia presented the PASSENGER project in a specific session “Technology opportunities for Critical Raw Materials mining, recycling, substitution”, alongside the Inco Piles and SEArcular Mine projects.
Reminding the environmental impact of extracting and refining rare-earth elements (REE) in producing permanent magnets, he presented different approaches to mitigate the EU’s dependency on REE, and detailed how the PASSENGER project focuses on improved ferrite and Mn-Al-C to pilot substition of REE in permanent magnets as well as their integration in electromobile devices.
The 2021 Raw Materials Week addresses the latest news on raw materials in the EU, including: Critical Raw Materials, Trends in innovation and Skills for raw materials, EU Horizon technology success stories, EU-Canada Partnership, UNECE Resource management.
